Thursley Common - 8/6/18

June 16, 2018
11:30AM - 3:30PM - Birds seen included Colin the cuckoo, curlew, redstarts, stonechats, Dartford warbler, woodlark, jays, buzzards, blue tits, great tits, mistle thrush, reed buntings, goldfinches, chaffinches, green woodpecker and mallards. Nightjars churring and goldcrests were heard. Mammals seen included a female roe deer with c3 fawns and a fox cub. Reptiles included an adder under some gorse and many common lizards on the boardwalks.

1:30PM - 3:30PM - Birds seen were a kingfisher, green woodpeckers, skylarks, meadow pipits, reed buntings, kestrel, buzzard, red kite, mallards, tufted duck, moorhens, coots, Canada geese, lapwings, redwings, blackbirds, blackcap, blue tits, great tits, long-tailed tits, pheasant and goldfinches. Song thrush and chiffchaffs were heard.

10:30AM - 1:15PM - 20+ swallows, 2 woodlarks, 2 tree pipits, 5+ stonechats, 3 mallards (on Pudmore pond), 3 treecreepers, 3 Dartford warblers, 1 kestrel, 1 buzzard, 2 jays, 10+ long-tailed tits, 3 great tits, 2 blue tits, 10+ goldfinches and 1 willow warbler. Chiffchaffs and goldcrests were heard, but no redstarts.

Sadly I missed the long-tailed duck - it was seen the day before and the day after!

Rutland Water - 20/8/16 - 21/8/16

I enjoyed the Birdfair and some birdwatching of course over at Rutland Water. I only visited the Lyndon Nature Reserve and I saw 3 new species for me, which were Osprey, Tree Sparrow and Ruff. Other bird species I saw, bringing the total to 40, were green sandpiper, little egret, greenshank, grey heron, great tit, blue tit, greenfinch, goldfinch, robin, blackbird, hobby, red kite, cormorant, mallard, Canada goose, greylag goose, mute swan, great crested grebe, little grebe, coot, moorhen, tufted duck, black-headed gull, herring gull, wren, willow warbler, reed warbler, woodpigeon, carrion crow, magpie, collared dove, house martin, sand martin, swallow, lapwing, teal and pochard.

Menorca - 10/7/16 - 16/7/16

July 18, 2016
I was on holiday in Menorca for a week and there is always time for a bit of birdwatching. I saw the following bird species:
Hoopoe (only flying away from me), White Stork, Cattle Egret, Rock Thrush, Sardinian Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher, House Sparrow, Lesser Kestrel, Kestrel, Black Kite, Eleonora's Falcon, Woodchat Shrike, Blackbird, Collared Dove, Woodpigeon, different Gulls and Greenfinch.

On the 14th of July I visited Es Grau Natural Park where I added the following species to my list:
Purple Gallinule, Little Egret, Black-winged Stilt, Greenshank, Moorhen, Coot, Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Pochard and Mallard.

Other wildlife I saw includes a hedgehog, lizards and hummingbird hawk moths.

No little bittern :(

10:00AM - 12:45PM - 1 Cetti's warbler, 2 little egrets, 2 goldcrests, 20+ meadow pipits, 20+ skylarks, 20+ linnets, 15+ reed buntings (mainly male), 2 grey herons, 6 ring-necked parakeets, 2 blackcaps (both male), c10 chiffchaffs, 2 willow warblers, 2 chaffinches, c10 goldfinches, 4 stock doves, 2 wrens, c10 blue tits, c10 great tits, 3 long-tailed tits, 2 kestrels, 2 red kites, 2 buzzards, 1 stonechat (male), 3 green woodpeckers, 1 pied wagtail, 3 cormorants, 8 mallards, 4 robins and 5+ blackbirds. Also heard greenfinches, a song thrush and a pheasant.
